Hi there and welcome to Clare's Learning Club!
I am Clare, the owner and director of Clare's Learning Club, we are team of four qualified teachers offering Eleven Plus tuition in the Sevenoaks and Dartford area to year 4 and year 5 children.
I have been teaching since 2007 with consistent outstanding feedback from observations. When a full time teacher, I was a Head of Department and managed the Primary School Transition Team, working closely with many of the surrounding Primary Schools. Having left full-time teaching to spend time with my young family, I started running after-school clubs in 2012. Since starting the clubs we have helped many children make huge leaps in their progress and confidence in the classroom as well as go on to be successful in the Eleven Plus. Please take a look at some of the feedback from parents.
The popular after-school clubs are run in Otford, Farningham, Dartford and Riverhead. Each club has maximum group size of 10, this allows time for the teacher to spend time with pupils as individuals, lead group activities and offer guidance and support to student led learning. Children respond well to learning in a club setting, each session is different, offering a range of learning activities and topics. Spaces are limited so do get in touch soon if you think you might be interested in a place for your child or would like to discuss anything regarding the club.

All club teachers hold QTS status, have a current DBS check and full professional insurance.
Club Overview
Clare's Learning Club is an affordable and fun way to prepare your child for secondary school and the Eleven Plus or other local tests. It is also suitable for children who do not intend to sit the test, as a way for them to build confidence in a slightly more informal setting to school. We cover all the topics required for the tests. Children focus on learning key skills in Maths, English comprehension, Verbal, Non-Verbal and Spatial Reasoning. We also provide support for how to approach the test (year 5 only), with exam coaching and practice tests in the final summer term approaching the tests in September.
The learning environment is fun, supportive and challenging, with learning broken up into manageable chunks alongside varied tasks. Children are motivated to learn by receiving rewards, playing games, working in groups and pairs. Your child will receive some one to one support throughout the session whilst working independently. Being a group they will receive less one to one time than compared to private tutor. However, since training to teach I have worked as a private tutor, in my experience I have found that children make excellent progress in a club setting, as there is naturally less pressure and they maintain engagement due to the variety of activities.

Topics
Maths - Fractions, algebra, percentages, decimals, mental arithmetic and the other topics required that they can find challenging. We cover them in a way that makes learning fun and accessible. The learning is broken up into manageable chunks and the same topics are repeated throughout the year to ensure there is ample opportunity to revisit and revise the topics.
In the Eleven Plus Reasoning comprises of two topics Verbal and Non-Verbal or Spatial Reasoning
Verbal Reasoning – Alphabet coding, alphabet sequences and codes in words, logical reasoning, number patterns and mathematical reasoning and the other topics required.
Non-Verbal/ Spatial Reasoning - Children are introduced to this in Year 4, but will spend longer in Year 5 gaining the techniques to understand and answer questions quickly and accurately. Non-verbal reasoning requires good spatial awareness, some children will have this skill naturally. However, for those that don't, I teach them how to be disciplined and systematic in their approach. I cover series, matrices, patterns, families and the other concepts they need.
English - Children learn how to structure writing in different styles, analyse comprehension from a range of texts and grammar. As it stands, the writing aspect of the test is only assessed if a child is borderline or an appeal is made.
Exam coaching - General techniques of how to approach the test alongside ways of answering questions. My aim is to help them be as confident and calm when the time comes to take the test.

Example Session
Year 4
Year 5 - The session is broken up into chunks to ensure the children maintain engagement. Some weeks we will cover small amounts of all the topics and some weeks we will spend more time focusing on one area, weekly attendance is important so as not to miss topics.
