Hi, I’m Clare, the owner and director of Clare’s Learning Club. We’re a team of four qualified teachers offering dedicated Eleven Plus tuition to Year 4 and Year 5 children in the Sevenoaks and Dartford areas.
I’ve been teaching since 2007 and have consistently received outstanding feedback from observations throughout my career. Before founding Clare’s Learning Club, I was a full-time teacher, serving as Head of Department and leading the Primary School Transition Team. This role involved close collaboration with many local primary schools to support smooth transitions for students. After stepping back from full-time teaching to focus on my young family, I began running after-school clubs in 2012. Since then, we’ve helped many children make significant strides in their progress and confidence — not to mention preparing them successfully for the Eleven Plus exam. Please feel free to check out some of the wonderful feedback from parents we’ve received.
Our popular after-school clubs run in Otford, Farningham, Dartford, and Riverhead. The clubs offer plenty of opportunities for teachers to provide individual attention, lead engaging group activities, and support student-led learning. Children really thrive in our club setting, where every session offers a variety of activities and topics designed to keep learning fresh and fun. Spaces are limited, so if you’re interested in securing a place for your child or want to discuss anything about the club, please get in touch soon.

All our club teachers hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), have current DBS checks, and carry full professional insurance.
Club Overview
Clare’s Learning Club offers an affordable and enjoyable way to prepare your child for secondary school, the Eleven Plus, or other local entrance tests. It’s also perfect for children who aren’t sitting the test but want to build confidence in a relaxed, supportive environment outside of school.
We cover all the essential topics needed for these tests, with a strong focus on developing key skills in Maths, English comprehension, Verbal, Non-Verbal, and Spatial Reasoning. For Year 5 students, we also provide targeted exam coaching and practice tests during the summer term to help them approach the tests in September with confidence.
Our learning environment is fun, supportive, and challenging, with lessons broken into manageable chunks and a variety of engaging tasks. Children stay motivated through rewards, games, and group or paired activities. While each child receives some one-to-one support during independent work time, the group setting naturally offers less individual attention than private tutoring. However, from my experience as both a private tutor and club leader, children often make excellent progress in this kind of environment. The reduced pressure and varied activities keep them engaged and eager to learn.

Topics
Maths - Fractions, algebra, percentages, decimals, mental arithmetic and the other topics required that they can find challenging. We cover them in a way that makes learning fun and accessible. The learning is broken up into manageable chunks and the same topics are repeated throughout the year to ensure there is ample opportunity to revisit and revise the topics.
In the Eleven Plus Reasoning comprises of two topics Verbal and Non-Verbal or Spatial Reasoning
Verbal Reasoning – Alphabet coding, alphabet sequences and codes in words, logical reasoning, number patterns and mathematical reasoning and the other topics required.
Non-Verbal/ Spatial Reasoning - Children are introduced to this in Year 4, but will spend longer in Year 5 gaining the techniques to understand and answer questions quickly and accurately. Non-verbal reasoning requires good spatial awareness, some children will have this skill naturally. However, for those that don't, I teach them how to be disciplined and systematic in their approach. I cover series, matrices, patterns, families and the other concepts they need.
English - Children learn how to structure writing in different styles, analyse comprehension from a range of texts and grammar. As it stands, the writing aspect of the test is only assessed if a child is borderline or an appeal is made.
Exam coaching - General techniques of how to approach the test alongside ways of answering questions. Our aim is to help them be as confident and calm when the time comes to take the test.

Example Session

Year 5 - The session is broken up into chunks to ensure the children maintain engagement. Some weeks we will cover small amounts of all the topics and some weeks we will spend more time focusing on one area, weekly attendance is important so as not to miss topics.
